Barcelona accommodation guide - Book online best price

Step 1 - select the type of accommodation that suits you

Choose the neighborhood where you like to stay in Barcelona

Book accommodation to the best available price

Hopefully, you now have an overview of the accommodation available in Barcelona and in which neighbourhood you want to stay in.

Step 3 is the last step before choosing your accommodation. Here we explain why the prices of hotel rooms and apartments may change and how you can book your accommodation at the best available price.

Step 3 - Book your accommodation at the best available price

Finding cheap hotel rooms or apartments in Barcelona is not always easy. Despite the many new hotels built in recent years, Barcelona still has a very high room-occupancy rate all year round.

There are three rules you should consider if you want to book a cheap hotel room in Barcelona.

Rule #1 - Book as early as possible

"First come, first served"

In the hotel industry the cheap rooms are the first to go. The longer you wait the more expensive the rooms will get, just like with air travel.

I always recommend people to book their hotel rooms at least 2-3 months in advance. If you choose to wait longer, you will end up paying more for the same hotel room and it might become difficult to find a hotel in a specific neighbourhood.

This applies especially between March and October since it's the tourist season in Barcelona.

During the winter season, November to February, you usually don't need the same foresight when booking your accommodation. However, there are exceptions. (See below)

Rule #2 - Avoid large sporting events and trade fairs

Example: In September last year, I went to New York and did not follow my own rules, waiting until the last minute to book a hotel room. When I finally started searching, the cheapest rate for a room was $460.

It turned out, that during that week a UN Summit was held so every hotel in Manhattan was fully booked with government officials from around the world.

Finally, I had to book a hotel in the district of Brooklyn outside Manhattan and that wasn't cheap either.

The same happens in Barcelona. There are some dates that you should avoid if you want to find cheap accommodation.

There are three events that you should avoid when booking your stay in Barcelona:

3GSM Mobile Fair
(held in February every year.
The world's largest cell phone tradeshow. All hotels in Barcelona city and suburbs are fully booked.

Construmat (held in May every two years)
Spain's largest construction trade fair. Barcelona is always very busy during these dates.

Formula 1 Grand Prix (held in May every year)
Formel 1 Gran Premio Formula
The hotels are usually full in Barcelona during this event.

Rule #3 - Be flexible

This rule is important both when you book your flights and when you book your hotel room. If possible, visit Barcelona between Monday and Friday and avoid the weekends.

Conclusion

I hope that these three steps have helped you find the type of accommodation that suits you best. If you have any other questions or doubts regarding hotels, hostels, etc, please send me an email.
