PortAventura - Biggest Theme Park In Spain 1 Hour From Barcelona |
|
|

Port Aventura - an amusement park for the whole family, only one hour from Barcelona
It's only one hour by train from Barcelona to the Port Aventura amusement park. The park was originally supposed to be a Eurodisney but at the last minute it was decided that it would be located in Paris instead. Despite this, the construction continued and in 1995 Port Aventura opened. Aside from the amusement park, there is the 9000 square metre water park, Caribe Aquatic Park.
Port Aventuras location on the Costa Dorada (Gold Coast) means that you are close to the beach and the weather is usually good. The nearest airport is Reus, from where Ryanair flies.

Port Aventura park consists of 5 different worlds: Mediterranean, Polynesia, Mexico, China and the Wild West. Each world has its own architecture, food, entertainment and attractions.
It’s the size and the speed that distinguishes the attractions of Port Aventura from Eurodisney in Paris. Eurodisney in Paris is more suitable for smaller children, and Port Aventura is perfect for youngsters and brave adults. Are you brave enough?
Furios Baco - You ride at the speed of a catapult, from 0 – 83.9 mph in only 3 seconds. This attraction is unique in the world but it’s definitely not for those of you who are afraid of speed. (See picture below)
Dragon Khan - a giant rollercoaster with 8 loops and a speed of 65 mph
Hurakan Condor - You go up 115 metres before dropping straight down at a speed of upto 72 mph before decelerating.
El Tutuki Splash - You go around a small volcano in a boat before suddenly dropping straight down at a speed of 38 mph into volcanic waters. (See picture above)
See map of PortAventura.
There are also rides for the smaller children and for the not-so-brave adults e.g. The Teacups, Silver River Flume, Tomahawk Roller Coaster and many more. The wide range of attractions ensures that the whole family will have fun.
It can be very crowded during weekends and peak season and you might have to wait for over an hour to ride the most popular attractions. For those of you who intend to go on many rides and don’t want to stand in-line, there is an additional ticket you can buy. The ticket is called Express Max and is only sold on days when the park has many visitors. With this ticket you can take the fast lane to the attractions and you only need to stand in-line for a maximum time of 15 minutes.
