Girona (in Catalan) or Gerona (in Spanish) is the name both of the region and the capital city in the region. It is located 100 km north of Barcelona. Many low-cost carriers, including Ryanair, fly here. Costa Brava, a popular tourist destination north of Barcelona, is in the Girona region.

A return ticket costs € 21 and the journey takes about 1hr 30 min. The bus company is called Sagalés and they stop at the Estació del Nord in Barcelona. From here you can either take a taxi to your hotel or the Metro L1 (two stops to Plaza Catalunya.)

Despite the fact that the ruling party in the Catalan parliament received only 39.70% of the votes in yesterday s election, they can, together with the revolutionary left party CUP who also want an independent state, obtain majority. Together they have 72 of the 135 seats in Parliament. If you count the number of votes, 47.78% voted in favour of the independence parties, and 52.22% against.
