Celebrate New Year's Eve in Barcelona
Barcelona is a popular destination for New Year celebrations.
There are a lot of tourists during this time so the hotel occupancy is
high. Remember to book your accommodation far in advance.
12 Grapes and Cava
If you're planning to celebrate New Year's Eve in Barcelona it's
important that you prepare yourself by buying 12 grapes, you will need
these when the clock strikes midnight. According to tradition you eat a
grape for each strike if you want the new year to be a successful one.
Wash them down with a glass of Cava or Champagne.
Where should you celebrate New Year's?
Most Barcelonians celebrate at home in the evening eating
dinner with family and friends watching the celebrations on television.
Later in the night people go out and the bars get crowded. There are
those who choose to celebrate New Year's at one of the downtown
restaurants offering New Year's menus (to a high price). These
restaurants offer grapes and Cava when the clock strikes midnight.
The younger people celebrate New Year's on the beach or at Placa
Catalunya where around 60 000 people come each year.
A much more quiet option that started in 2006 is the New Year's
celebration at Torre Agbar. The celebration was broadcasted live on
Catalan TV Channel 3 and it was so popular that they decided to
continue this new tradition. Below you can watch a clip from the 2006
