Barcelona airport - El Prat International airport

Terminal B, Barcelona flygplats

Information regarding Barcelona Airport (El Prat.)
Click here for information about Girona airport
Click here for information about Reus airport

Barcelona International Airport, El Prat, is located 12 km south of the city centre. The airport has 3 different terminals: Terminal 1 which is the airport's new terminal and was finished in 2009. Big airliners such as British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, SAS and Spainair fly from here.

The terminals 2A and 2B are the airport's old terminals and are located 7km from the new terminal. Most of the lowcost airlines such as EasyJet, Airberlin and Transavia fly from here.

A fourth terminal is being built right now which should be finished in 2010.

Address and contact details

Aeropuerto de Barcelona
08820 El Prat de Llobregat
Phone: +34 902 404 704

Barcelona Airport has 12 886 parking spaces. 2200 covered spaces are in the building across from Terminal C.

0 - 4 days 17.45 € per day.
5 <   days 13.95 € per day.

Leaving the luggage at the airport

There are storage boxes in the car park opposite Terminal B.

Large box     50x80x90 cm     4.80 € / 24 hours
Medium box     35x80x60 cm     4.20 € / 24 hours
Small box     35x80x45 cm     3.70 € / 24 hours

Car hire

In Terminal B, you will find the major rental companies Avis, Hertz and Europcar. Here you can rent a car directly over the counter. However, I recommend that you rent your car from a rental car agency before you fly to Spain. You don't have to queue and prices are much cheaper since the agencies usually have good discounts.

How to get from the airport to Barcelona’s centre

Getting from the airport into Barcelona is quite easy and painfree. There are three options to get into the centre.

Taxi: A cab ride from the airport to the city centre should cost around 35 - 40 €. Look out for the odd dishonest cab driver that adds his ‘own’ taxes, but do not be surprised if there are some additional costs when the taxi has arrived to its destination. It is permissible by law to add 1 € per bag, and 3 € to drive to and from the airport.

Aerobus: Barcelona's blue airport buses are waiting just outside each terminal. A ride costs 5.10 € per person and takes about 30 minutes to the centre. The bus stops at 6 different places in the city:

Plaza Espanya (Near Montjuic, pøbler Espanyol, Fira)
Gran Via / Urgell (the middle of Eixample)
Plaza Universitat (Beside University, Pl. Catalunya)
Plaza Catalunya (Center, La Rambla, El Corte Inglés)
Pg Gràcia / Diputació (La Pedrera, Casa Batllo)
Estacio Sants (train station)

Train: Renfe is the name of Spain's national rail company. It is the cheapest option to get to the city and trains leave every half hour. However, whilst a new high-speed train is being built, it might be a little complicated to find the right train. The only train you should take from the airport is called C2 terminus Sant Celoni. It departs from the terminal 2B and stops at the following stations:

El Prat de Llobregat
Bellvitge (Barcelona's main hospital)
Barcelona Sants (main train station)
Barcelona Passeig de Gracia (5 minute walk from Pl. Catalunya and La Rambla)

Be especially mindful of pickpockets when you travel by metro, trains and airport buses. Learn how to best avoid pickpockets.

Beer in Barcelona?

After you have had enough cava and wine, it might be nice to try a tasty beer. La Cerveteca is an amazing bar and the boys serve beers from all over the world and for a good price. If you are not sure which one to choose, they let you try first. It is fun and it is delicious. The bar is located right next to El Correos (the main post office)
