Tapas bars in Barcelona

Tapas - easy and good

Tapas, Tapas and Tapas!

Tapas is the name of a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cooking. The best way is to order many different tapas and share, that way you get to try many different specialties.

There are different kinds of tapas throughout the regions of Spain. Below you find some of the most common tapas in Barcelona:

Pa amb Tomaquet - a slice of bread with tomato and olive oil. For lunch and dinner the usual bread is often replaced with Pa amb Tomaquet.

Tortilla de Patatas - Spanish potato omelette. Very popular throughout Spain.

Patatas bravas - fried dices of potato, served with "Salsa Brava" and mayonnaise. The cheapest of all tapas.

Plato de Jamón - Thin slices of wonderful Spanish ham. A fantastic tapas in the upper price bracket. Combine with Pa amb Tomaquet for the best result. The only downside is that the ham you usually buy at home will start tasting like rubber in comparison! Note: If you want to take some Jamón home, ask the person you buy it from to give you the ham in a vacuum package. A good Jamón should cost around €55 per kg and it should have black feet (Pata Negra).

Calamares - fried squid rings. A good and simple tapas. The rings should be soft and easy to chew.

Boquerones a Vinagre - a type of anchovy that is filleted and marinated in olive oil and vinegar. Fantastic tasting!

Boquerones Andaluza - the same type of anchovy as above but the fish is fresh and it's served with a slice of lemon.

Patatas Bravas - A cheap but good tapas

Ciudad Condal - a personal favourite

Tapas Restaurants

Ciudad Condal is always crowded. This tapas restaurant has a wide range of tapas to choose from and it's a favourite among both locals and tourists. Order a couple of quick tapas at the bar together with a cold beer or a glass of wine or ask for a table inside the restaurant. Affordable prices, delicious food and a vivid atmosphere. NOTE: You can't make reservations at Ciudad Condal. However, normally you just have to wait for 15-20 minutes. A perfect opportunity to order a cold glass of beer and some giant olives.
