Antoni Gaudí museums in Barcelona
Barcelona has a lot of interesting and remarkable museums. Below you find
information about our favourite landmarks by the brilliant architect
Antoní Gaudí and how to arrive at the different attractions.
Museu del Temple Expiatori de la
Sagrada Familia
Antoni Gaudi's
most famous work is without a doubt La Sagrada Familia. The construction
of the cathedral began in 1882 and it's still far from complete. In fact,
the expected completion date is 2025. The construction of the cathedral
receives no funding from the State, being financed solely by church
visitors, donors and tourists. The museum is located inside the cathedral
and there you can learn more about the story of Antonio Gaudí and his
cathedral.

La Pedrera by
Antonio Gaudí
La Pedrera (The Quarry in
English) was built by Gaudí between 1906 and 1910 for the married couple
Pere Milà and Rosario Segimon. The house is designed as an apartment
building and initially the plan was to have two indoor ramps so the
residents could drive their cars all they way up to the apartment doors.
This was not possible to implement so instead Gaudí decided to build a
garage, which became the first garage in Barcelona.

Casa Batlló by Antonio Gaudí
This museum is privately owned but in 2002 Casa Batlló was opened
for visitors and for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays.
The house was a renovation project led by Gaudí between 1904 and 1906.
The job was to expand the building by two floors, renovate the first
floor and construct a new facade. Curvy lines dominate the facade, which
is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles. On the roof are
several chimneys and a large cross.
Casa Batlló is thought to be a tribute to the Catalan patron saint Sant
Jordi (Saint Gerorge). The curved blue roof is said to represent a
dragon's back while the balconies symbolize the dragon's skull and bones.
The big cross at the top of the building is said to represent the sword
of Sant Jordi, plunged into the back of the dragon.
