Guide to Barcelona's different neighbourhoods

Each district in Barcelona has its own distinct style and atmosphere. Below, we will take a closer look and describe the 12 most central neighbourhoods in Barcelona.

They are in alphabetic order:

Barceloneta - a nice, central area of Barcelona. Especially popular among families since the most central beach, Barceloneta is located here.

Ciutat Vella/Gòtic - the oldest neighbourhood and heart of the old Barcelona. Full of narrow, crowded streets, fantastic architecture and charming restaurants and cafés.

 Eixample - in Eixample you will find the best shopping in Barcelona, top-notch restaurants and bars, and Gaudi's most famous works such as La Pedrera and Casa Batlló.

El Born - trendy and intriguing neighbourhood in central Barcelona with many tapas restaurants and bars. The district has a bohemian feel and many artists and designers live here.

- Raval is home to a very diverse immigrant community. Small shops, bars, dirty streets and nightlife characterize this up-and-coming neighbourhood of Barcelona.

Gràcia -  cool, funky neighbourhood in central Barcelona. Every August, Barcelona's most famous street parade is held here, where you can participate in street painting.

Les Corts - mainly a business and residential neighbourhood. The only really big attraction in this area is Camp Nou - the mighty home arena of FC Barcelona.

Sant Martí - this district, also called 22@, is Barcelona's new centre for cutting-edge industry. Where there used to be factories, now there are offices, apartments and hotels.

 Sants-Montjüic - the inauguration ceremony for the 92 Olympics was held here. You can also find Barcelona's FIRA exhibition hall. Primarily a residential area, but with very good connections to the centre.

Sarrià-St. Gervasi is a wealthy neighbourhood with many parks, embassies, private schools and health-clinics.

Vila Olímpica - this neighbourhood was built in the old industrial area called Poblenou. Its purpose was to provide accommodation for the athletes during the Olympic Games in 1992. Today it is a modern neighbourhood very close to Barcelona's main beaches.

Balloon Festival in Igualada and San Fermin Next Weekend

Summer is here and the festivals are relentless. While the running of the bulls and the saint, San Fermin is being celebrated up in Pamplona we fly balloons here in Catalonia. The festival is the largest of its kind in Europe. Igualada is about 20 km outside Barcelona.
