Bicing - Barcelona's new transport system
|
|
|
Bicing
Barcelona's new transport system is called Bicing. It is a huge investment;
in only it's two first years of operation more than 400 bike stations have
been placed around the city. The stations are strategically located near
bus stops and metro stations. Unfortunately Bicing is presently only
available for local residents.
There were plans to offer Bicing to the city's visitors, but after strong
protests from the city's bike rental firms, this proposal was rejected.
This means that until further notice Bicing is only available for
residents in Catalonia.
The Bicing office:
Plaça de Carles Pi i Sunyer, 8
Barcelona
08002
http://www.bicing.com
Metro stop: Pl. Catalunya, L1
Opening hours:
Mon - Sun 8.30 am - 5.30 pm
How does it work?
First, apply for a Bicing card (see above). You need a credit/debit card
to apply. Once you have received the card you can immediately start
cycling.
You should borrow the bike for no more than 30 minutes and if you go over
that time you need to pay extra. If you don't return your bike within two
hours you are fined €6 and sent a warning notice. After three warnings you
lose your card. The bikes are to be used as transport within the city and
not for longer trips.
Cost
The card has an annual cost of €30.
Opening hours
Pick up / Drop off your bike at all stations:
Sunday - Thursday: 5 am -12 pm
Friday and Saturday: open 24 hours
